Auguste Anders was born 6 Nov 1825 in Herzberg, Sachsen, Preussen, Germany to Carl Friedrich Anders and Friederike Erdmuthe Salome Kupsch. She is one of eight children. When Auguste was 24 years old she married Carl Wilhelm von Rosenberg 5 September 1849 in Herzberg, just a few days before Wilhelm and his entire family boarded the ship Franziska and sailed to Texas in America. She possibly had four sisters and three brothers. Her name, along with four sisters appears in the church records of St. Marien’s Church of Herzberg/Elster. One sister died at age 37 apparently without marrying.
After arriving in Texas and settling near Round Top where they lived for several years, she and William as he became known moved to Austin in 1856. William had been an architect in Prussia where he originally came from and was appointed to the Texas land office a short time after moving to Austin. Auguste was the mother of twelve children. Together she and William donated land and money to go toward the building of the German Free School in Austin. They were also charter members of St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where hangs a stain glass window in their honor.
